Artist Spotlight: Kathleen Dunn

There’s something about the light on the South Shore and the Cape. It draws artists to live and create here, and it lends a certain look to their work that you don’t find anywhere else. This week’s spotlight is on Kathleen Dunn, a local artist whose work is soft and dreamy like a day at the beach.

Here is our interview with Kathleen:

Please tell us a little about yourself and your background:

I’m a grad of UMass Boston and attended Mass College of Art and Truro Center for the Arts. I’ve been exhibiting for close to 40 years on the Cape and the Boston area while working at the Boston Public Library.

Can you tell us about a project or accomplishment that you are particularly proud of?

I’m a member of the Peaked Hill Trust which preserves the historic artists dune shacks in Provincetown.

What upcoming events or projects do you have in the works?

My solo show “Shoreline: Contemporary Landscapes by Kathleen Dunn” opens June 10 at True Grit Art Gallery in Middleborough, MA

How do you see your work contributing to our community?

I hope my art may inspire others to appreciate the natural environment/nature.

What challenges have you faced in your work?

Balancing a full time job/family and finding time to paint.

What advice would you give to aspiring painters in our community?

If you enjoy creating just continue. It can bring lifelong enjoyment.
